Zandvoort is Amsterdam’s main beach, it’s only half an hour by train. Zandvoort is a small but very lively touristic city, it is the Coney Island Beach for Amsterdam people who want to escape the hot city during summer. Trains leave every half hour from Amsterdam Central Station (through Haarlem) to Zandvoort. For more adventurous people; take the Fast Flying Ferry, a hydrofoil departing behind Amsterdam Central Station, for another (nearby) beach spot: Velsen Zuid. From there you can take a short bus trip (bus 82) to the beach at IJmuiden. This beach is non touristic, with less café’s, shops, etc.
