A church on the 4th floor of a canal house! Its named: Ons’ Lieve Heer Op Solder (our lord in the attic) and you probably understand why.
The church is constructed in the attics of a canal house and 2 rear houses, in a way that you can not see it from the outside. In the time it was built, from 1641 on, it was for Catholics not allowed to have public services in Protestant Amsterdam, so they built a hidden church.
Not only the church, but the also the rest of the canal house is interesting to visit. The living room on the 1st floor is one of the best preserved ones from the Dutch Golden Age.
