oldest gay bar in town

Amsterdam is well known for it’s gay friendliness. But when did this start? Already in 1927 Bet van Beeren started a cafe on Amsterdam’s notorious Zeedijk, in the middle of the red light district. Bet was openly lesbian and thus making cafe ‘t Mandje the first gay friendly bar in town. People came from all over the world to visit this small and cosy bar, which it still is.
