The New York Times was not very positive in reviewing Herman Koch’s novel “the Dinner”: “It lacks morality”. Indeed the thriller does make you dislike the main characters (not to mention their children…). Nevertheless the novel is hugely succesfull, and not only in Holland. It plays in two of our Watergraafsmeer (aka as the Brooklyn of Amsterdam) famous places; exclusive Restaurant “de Kas” and local hangout annex cosy brown pub “Elsa’s”. Herman Koch lives in the neighbourhood as well. You will not be disappointed reading the book, as agreed by many US readers now. The book hit the NYT Bestseller List this week, straight to no 9. Despite the review.
