best outdoor places to watch the World Cup in Amsterdam

1352_fullimage_locaties terras_560x350It’s great to see the orange decorated houses, café’s, shops and complete streets. Amsterdam is fully prepared for the World Cup tournament. Tonight is the first match for the Dutch team and we will watch it together with friends, family and complete strangers, preferably outdoors.
If you are in Amsterdam the coming month and interested in football I would advise you to experience the World Cup Feeling the Dutch way.
These are the best places to do so:

Museumplein
If you like crowds, go there. Expect about 100.000 people. Expect gigantic screens. Expect music and party and no other colour than orange. The Dutch matches will be shown here, at least the first 2. After that, check beforehand, the location may have changed.
Entrance: free

Marie Heineken Plein
The international experience you’ll find over here. There’s Barça the place to be for the Spanish supporters, O’Donnell’s the Irish Pub is inviting the Britisch supporters, Café Marie says it’s offering refuge for German fans and Caffe Parma welcomes Italians. Of course all other nationalities are welcome too. These bars and most of the other bars will have several TV screens and centrally on the square there will be big screens.

North Sea Jazz Club
Pazzanistraat 1
Inside the no-nonsense approach: great quality and sound, no fuzz.
Outside it’s the opposite: they had tribunes build, for the real stadium feeling.
After party with DJ’s – even when loosing the game.

Westergasterras
Klonneplein 4-6
A screen of 7 x 7 meters! Thousands of football fans will join to watch the match here. Waiters bring trays and pitchers of beer to the public, so you don’t have to miss a second of the match.

Oranjehaven
Watch the match from your own boat or from one of the large Orange boats that you can get on for free. A fleet of boats will leave for the Oranjehaven at 18.00 from the Europarking in the Marnixstraat. If you don’t own a boat you can take the large Orange boat, it’s free. Food and drinks are for sale of course. And don’t think of leaving early: after the match the party just begins.
Admission: € 5,-

Vondeltuin
Beautiful location: terrace in the famous Vondelpark. Good equipment: 2 large and 4 smaller screens, extra beer taps and a BBQ.  All ingredients for a great experience.
Vondelpark 7

Hannekes Boom
Large screen, terrace at the waterside, waiters serving pitchers all the time.
Only the Dutch matches!
Dijksgracht 4

One large screen and 68 (!!) small TV’s to watch the matches. Extra advantage: Roest has a small city beach.
Bad weather scenario: Roest is next to a beautiful old factory hall, where the match can be watched on the large screen with hundreds of people. Czaar Peterstraat.

Pllek
Pllek is the city’s most beautiful city beach, at the IJ river. They show the Dutch matches on big screens.
TT Neveritaweg 59

2 large screens and a caipirihabar!
