In a former outbuilding of a primary school in Monnickendam you can find a great vintage store. Currently, sustainable business is trendy. This also fits the new shop: Vintage Brands owned by Babette Schellekens. It comes to women’s fashion brands in the higher segment; Humanoid, Repeat, Hale Bob, Moncler, Marccain, Burberry, Marlene Birger, Day, Diesel and even Gucci. one thing you need in Amsterdam these days

senz embrella

Yes, we do get some rain sometimes in Amsterdam this time of year. But who cares?  With the right gear it’s fun to walk in the rain.
The right gear is of course a Senz umbrella.  It’s a Dutch Design and the umbrella is winner of almost all major design awards in the world. Its aerodynamic design makes sure the Senz° umbrella can resist winds up to 60 miles an hour without breaking or inverting.
That will keep you dry – and happy.
Naturally you hope that you don’t need an umbrella at all during your trip to Amsterdam. In that case you have a great souvenir to bring home, something that you can really use.
And if you do encounter some rain, here’s a tip on how to spend a rainy day in amsterdam
(not without your Senz umbrella of course).

romantic trip: buy a vintage wedding dress in Amsterdam

The most famous shop for vintage clothing in Amsterdam is Laura Dolls, located at the popular 9 streets. Recently Laura opened a second business: an atelier specialized in vintage wedding dresses. More than 3000 dresses, from the fifties and older are available in the atelier. It’s an explosion of lace, satin, silk, tulle, batist, cotton and more. There are unique authentic dresses in all sizes and styles.
The staff knows the collection inside out and they help you find the dress of your dreams, make original combinations, add the right accessories, etc. Therefore the atelier can only be visited by appointment, so they can make sure to have plenty of time for you. The atelier can tailor the dress to fit you perfectly. (And all of this for a much lower price than a new wedding dress.)
Great combination: take a romantic trip to Amsterdam and buy yourself an unique, tailored, vintage wedding dress, all within budget.

Duikelman among the worlds’ best cookware shops

Duikelman Amsterdam

Duikelman got rated third(!!) on Foodrepublics‘ world list of best stores for home and professional cooks. Of course, I would say. Duikelman is great fun, even for non-foodies. They sell everything you could wish for in your kitchen, no matter if it’s a small or professional one. From pots and pans, to kitchen machines, stoves, designer linens, ceramics, etc.
When you explore the aisles of the store, you’ll surely discover cooking gear that you never knew existed. And after discovering them you can’t do without them any longer, so you have to buy them. They are real souvenirs and presents to take home!

Visiting Duikelman is great in combination with a visit to the Albert Cuypmarkt, just around the corner. It’s the largest and most interesting market in Amsterdam, with a bonus for foodies: lots of interesting shops behind the stalls with exotic food from all over the world.

one of the best stores in the world for home and professional cooks

Foodies, food lovers and cooks visiting or living in Amsterdam should know the adress: on Ferdinand Bolstraat 66 in trendy Pijp area. Duikelman sells it all: 10.000 utensils and other non food gadgets. You will still need the great ideas and recipes of a real chef, but good kitchen stuff is certainly mandatory for a great meal.  Food Republic mentions Duikelman in a new list, next to world famous Paris store Dehillerin. There is also a second smaller branch at the other side of street, on Gerard Doustraat 54, selling stoves and big fridges. Duikelman might be worth a visit, just before your Xmas cooking.
